Delegates of SKAL International World Congress Praise Kenya’s Unique Tourist Attractions

A few days after Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho announced that Mombasa County was in quick preparations to host the 79th International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals (SKÅL) World Congress 2018 on Wednesday 17th October, 2018, the congress was meant to kick off on the same day and run up to 21st October at Pride Inn Paradise and Resort in Mombasa. The event is happening in Kenya and Africa for the first time since the establishment of SKAL World Congress in 1934 with its Headquarters in Spain and security is beefed up amidst this global tourism event.

With the much anticipated launch of direct flights from Nairobi to New York, the delegates in attendance of the ongoing 79th SKAL World Congress foresee a blooming and booming tourism industry in Kenya especially in arrivals with the current innovation and investments government is putting to the sector and all these include the unique attractions that the country has greatly impressed the delegates who are in Kenya for the first time. More than 500 tourism and hospitality practitioners from all corners of the world were officially and warmly welcomed by the Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala on Wednesday upon their arrival.

After the Kenyan government restored security in Kenya and especially along the coastal areas, the conference now comes as a major boost to the tourism sector along Kenya’s coast, different from being an endorsement of the destination as safe place for tourism business after the congress was cancelled in 2015 due to security fears but while happening in Hyderabad, India on October 7, 2017, Kenya was granted another chance to host the 79th SKAL International World Congress 2018 in Mombasa.

According to statistics shown by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, there is massive growth in accommodation and food service deliveries from January to April 2018 though slower than last year’s growth and the high level of hotels or camp occupancy is a clear indication that there is a massive influx of tourists registered by the government.

With about 40 countries confirmed in attendance, Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF), the largest governing body uniting all tourism and travel related groups in the country believes that hosting this global event would give the eagerly required international publicity and exposure that Mombasa as a coastal travel and tourism destination needed and it proves a point that Mombasa has already been accepted and acknowledged as a safe place for tourists to visit and stay in.
