Samburu National Reserve is a place full of endless skies, dust-red plains and palm-fringed rivers on the vast and arid desert initially known as the Northern Frontier District. Physically dramatic, the 104 sq kilometers landscape of the Reserve has rocky battlements, craggy scarps, dry river beds and fallen boulders rising out of the thorn scrub against a backdrop of the far-distant hills and the great red table mountain known as Lololokwe. Samburu National Reserve has one of the few sanctuaries in Kenya providing protection to the endangered Grevy’s zebra, the rare Beisa Oryx, the long necked antelope “Gerenuk” and the Blue-shanked Somali ostriches, the large herds of elephant graze around the hills during the day before and they head to bathe on the banks of the river late in the evening.


Day 1- Transfer from Nairobi-Samburu National Reserve

After your early breakfast, the driver guide picks you up from your hotel, residence or airport and you embark on your comfortable journey North of Nairobi reaching around lunchtime and you check-in at your reserved lodge or camp for your lunch and relaxation.
At 1600hrs, you step out for a late afternoon game drive in search for the buffaloes, cheetahs, elephants, Grevy’s zebras, oryx and giraffes as you look out for other game in the plains. You then retire back to the lodge for your dinner and an overnight.

Day 2- Morning and afternoon Game Drives in the Reserve
On this 2nd day, you wake up to have your delicious breakfast very early and head out for another morning game tracking to thoroughly exhaust the park’s game that you missed during your evening game drive upon arrival like the rhinos, and if lucky the leopard and the lions returning from a night’s hunt. This time round you spend the whole day doing a morning and an afternoon game drive with a picnic lunch ready for you as you watch some of the aquatic animals including the crocodiles and the hippos on the Waso Nyiro River not forgetting some of the 450 bird species that fly over the park’s endless parks, they include the vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches and among others before returning to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 3- An Early Morning Game Drive, Visit the Samburu Community and Depart for Nairobi
On this last day at the reserve, you wake up to an early morning drive after breakfast and after you head to encounter the Samburu people who are completely pastoralists as they herd their cattles in the vast savanna grasslands and plains. You will penetrate deep into their traditional settlements and have a chance to interact with them, study their culture and purchase their affordable souvenirs and artifacts. You then set off and have your lunch en-route in Nanyuki town reaching Nairobi late for your drop off at your hotel, residence or airport.
